Be Prepared For Disaster!
Updated: Jun 8
You know it’s going to happen, and most likely at a crucial time. It’s there lingering at the back of your mind, leaping forward and causing you panic if there’s even a slight delay in your computer powering up. Yes, if you own a PC, it’s more than likely to have already happened to you: the dreaded crash that stops you in your tracks.
But not to worry, right? You’ve been diligently backing up all your precious files, from family photos to financial data, so there’s nothing to worry about. Except for most people, there is, because backing up files and data is something we all know we should do but few actually ever get around to doing – and even when they do, it’s only once in a blue moon and newer files are therefore at risk.
It may well be that whatever has caused a crash, freeze or hang – software conflicts, missing or outdated drivers, or more serious hardware failures – can be fixed with computer repairs, but it’s certainly not worth risking your files.
So, with home computing and most especially with businesses, take action now to prevent your files from being lost if disaster should strike.
The good news is that nowadays, backing up files is far less of a chore than it used to be. You can simply buy a relatively inexpensive external hard drive and back up absolutely everything on your PC or laptop onto it.
Schedule regular automatic backups so that you don’t forget. Also, if you know how to do it, you can partition your current hard drive and use that as a storage device – or if you don’t, you can ask a computer repair service to do it for you.
An even easier option and one you might find more convenient is to use one of the many and growing cloud-based services for storage. All the major tech companies, from Google to Microsoft, offer them – with large amounts of free storage available. Then backups can simply and easily be done via your Internet connection and your files will live online forever, or until you delete them. Have a look at what’s available and you might like to sign up for one today.
Being fully backed up at all times is the only way to ensure total PC peace of mind.
